My mind is running just a little too hot these days for my taste. I rarely have trouble sleeping – I’m out in 10 seconds and you could stage a high school band contest in the room and it would have no effect. But there are times, like the last couple of days, where my brain is so full of plans and ideas that I have trouble drifting off. Last night was particularly bad. Creativity is good, but I need to turn the spigot down a little bit; give the rest of me time to catch up.

Know what I mean?

I seem to remember reading on other people’s blogs interesting or disturbing search terms that have been used in search engines to reach their sites. Is this a meme? Anyway, here are a few things people were looking for when they got my site as a match:

funny chinese words
liquor photos
a picture of a mean face
corpses of avalanches

Hmmm.

Bonus: Disturbing Search Requests

People have at times kidded me about my penchant for lowercase. It’s lucky8ball, not Lucky8Ball or LUCKY8Ball or anything like that. You’ll see it on this site, and also on many sites I’ve designed. I believe it started when I read typography books that all mentioned how lowercase is easier to understand at a glance. IN ADDITION TO BEING THE EQUIVALENT OF SHOUTING (IN E-MAIL), ALL UPPERCASE TAKES LONGER TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. See? Why do you think most letters in text are lowercase? But in addition to that, I just like how it looks. So sue me.

I’m currently reading the Dune books by Frank Herbert. All of them. I realize this brands me as a dyed-in-the-wool geek, which should be of no surprise to anyone who knows me or the few who read this weblog. I’m currently starting God Emperor of Dune, and I have a lot of questions that remain unanswered. If anyone is within the sound of my voice who is knowledgeable about these books, please e-mail me so I can get some things figured out.

I’m actually not a big reader of science fiction, so I’m amazed by Herbert’s ability to invent a universe with thousands of years of history on hundreds of planets. He writes poetry and historical dialogues and describes whole new religions with precise detail. Quite an achievement, if not exactly a literary one.

Overheard on NPR this weekend on a satirical news program:
“According to a new study, the greatest threat to the United States is no longer nuclear war, or even biological warfare. It’s a leader of some rogue nation…jumping out from behind a bush and scaring Dick Cheney.”

Seen on The Simpsons intro tonight:
Bart writes on the blackboard, “I will not scare the vice president.”

Seems like a meme to me.

Richard Hatch said on the Survivor round table on CBS’ The Early Show this morning that tribal alliances will break down now that the tribes have merged. It’s an interesting comment, considering his Tagi conspirators continued to pick off Pagong people until none were left. Last night Kucha made a tragic miscalculation and picked Colby, when it should have been obvious that even her tribemates hate the eminently-hatable Jerri, and she was bound to have some votes cast against her. So they are now in line to suffer the Pagong fate…

A possible out for them: they convince Ogakor outsider Keith to join them in ousting Jerri. He hates her and clearly doesn’t want her to win. He knows he will be cast aside by Ogakor once all the Kucha (I almost typed ‘Pagong’) are gone. So if he goes with Kucha, he doesn’t stay any longer, but he is able to lay the smackdown on Jerri. Sounds like a plan to me.
