Does AOL have the right to block the multiple-chat client Trillian? I guess they do. It’s their system, and Trillian is just “pretending” to be an AIM client in order to hop on the network.
I was using Trillian for a while, mostly because I liked its interface better than the circa-Windows95 look of AIM. I don’t care about the multiple-client thing (you can also use Trillian for ICQ, Yahoo, etc.). I guess it just irritates me that AOL is blocking a potential souce for new users for their network because they can’t slap some more irritating ads in our faces.
Yeah, I live a hard life. 🙂
It has nothing to do with AOL not liking ad-free competitors — there are tons of Mac clients working right now. The only thing that makes them interfere to break clients is the use of certain APIs. (Is that even the right lingo?)
Trillian should be back after a quick rewrite.
I haven’t upgraded Trillian since 0.70, and I haven’t noticed any problems connecting to AIM…
Do you have a link to the story about AOL blocking Trillian? I use it because it connects me to a zillion things at once as the World’s Greatest Multitasker.
Tasker rich is ok for droids, but if Trillian really wants a megaboost he can upload AOL’s ROM+3456 mb via ZuperJava 44 with 128 giga-zillas if — and only if — he uplinks the Windows 2002 hd on a pentium Grot 80 tower and pretty much flush all the toilets in his neighborhood. Just a thought.
