I’ve been doing a fair amount of writing lately, for the e-mail newsletter I want to start. And I’m finding that the words flow better when I’m working on the laptop in the living room, rather than the big desktop with the big monitor in the computer room. A laptop just feels existentially lighter somehow, you know? Freer, when it comes to writing. Anyone else have this experience?

I completely agree. If I can’t get things done on my desktop, I’ll often sit down on the couch and amazingly I’ll be able to get things done. It’s a combination of a change in location, different surrounding environment, and the burning sensation on your legs from the laptop.
I still find that my best writing happens on paper. For me, there’s something freeing about writing down the words by hand, scribbling notes and crossing out unwanted passages. I can see all the versions of my work at once.
