Back from the beyond

Post – August 6, 2002

I was watching an old “ER” rerun on cable this morning, where Dr. Mark Greene treats a patient with lung cancer. Afterwards, after weeks of trying to quit smoking, he flushes his pack down the toilet, presumably for good. I found myself saying to the TV, “You’re going to die of a brain tumor in a few years. Have a cigarette if you want.”

Does that make me a bad person?

You’re not bad. Not at all. Besides, he died a long time ago when his head hit the canopy while ejecting from a flat spin.

No, Adam. Watching “American Idol” makes you a bad person. Or possibly a good person doing a bad thing.

When Dr. Green talks back to you from the screen, then I would start worrying.

No, it makes you a funny person. Now, if someone was in the room with you, it might make you an annoying person. Especially if they really liked Dr. Green.

As for “American Idol”, I just can’t help myself. I am really pulling for Kelly!
