Back from the beyond

Mr. Mosey likes to make fun of me for blogging Salon. But this article by a guest on Phil Donahue’s new cable show has a lot of thoughtful things to say about media, the influence of video games on kids, and why cable talk shows are not the best venue for reasoned debate, even if they are hosted by Donahue. Recommended.

That’s a great article. I can’t watch TV talk shows anymore because of the exact reasons the author cites – it’s about bullying each other and the person with the most sentimental background and simplest position always seems to win. In real life, issues are far more complex and those who edit them down to soundbites will never be effective in creating real solutions or effective policy.

Phil Donahue is smarmy. And icky. I am not thankful he’s back.
