I think I take out too much of my Web-rage on my poor mouse. As the day goes on, my pop-up closing clicks get harder, faster and more violent. mmmm…Cadbury Creme Eggs.
Nik: I’m actually more concerned with the “Santa – benevolent elf or dirty old man?” aspect of spying on people while they are asleep. And after all, I’m neither good nor bad while asleep.

I’ve been trying StopZilla. Seems to work pretty good on pop-ups. Not sure if it’s spyware or not, but so far ZoneAlarm has not let me know that it’s trying to access the Internet. It seems on the up and up and works. http://www.stopzilla.com/

It looks like reasonable software, but at the same time I just with Internet Explorer would do what Mozilla already did: give the user the power to control whether new windows can be created.
The trick with popup blockers, though, is it seems like ideally, they should block code that automatically pops up new windows, but still allow you to click on a link to open a new window. I tried a shareware popup blocker, but it wouldn’t let me open weblog comment windows, for example.
With Mozilla (at least v1.1 which I’m using), in the even that you choose to enable javascript, you can optionally disable the ability of javascript to:
# Open unrequested windows
# Move or resize existing windows
# Raise or lower windows
# Hide the status bar
# Change status bar text
# Change images
# Create or change cookies
# Read cookies
I have the first two disabled. I have found almost no sites which can do anything annoying to my browser, pop-up or otherwise, and almost no sites which I can’t still voluntarily navigate, including clicking on a link to open a window.
I use PopUp Killer for all of my killing needs. It comes with a ‘blacklist’ of sites to block, and you can add to it as necessary. If you contact me, I can share mine with you. It’s a great little program and makes a great booming sound when a popup gets killed.

That’s all I gotta say. It’s a browser for the people, not corporate America.
