Organization tip

(This is so off-topic for this site. But there’s nothing wrong with mixing things up a little, right?)

When going from one room to another in your house, look around for something in Room 1 that belongs in Room 2. Pick it up and take it there and put it away properly. Do this often enough, make it a habit, and you’ll thank me. Really. Unless your living space is just always clean and tidy and organized, in which case I hate you.

What in the hell do you think I do all day long? I have a two year old. My life is picking up things from one room and putting them away in another. And I still have a mess of a house.

Are you saying I have a messy apartment? Because I do, of course.

I practice a policy of containment. There are certain strictly delineated areas wherein mess is allowed to thrive. The top surface of a particular furniture unit, for example. If something is out of place elsewhere, it may be moved to the mess area without penalty.

This is a trick I learned waitressing. No empty-handed trips. It has noticeable affects on your tips. It is deceptively brilliant.
