Google blindness
There used to be a lot of search engines on the web. Now, it’s pretty much all Google. It’s even a verb – “Google for information on Adam Blust.” Well, after my pro-war nemesis Dave Winer linked to AllTheWeb‘s new redesign, I thought I would take it for a spin with my favorite search term, “words mean things.”
I was glad to see my own site comes up first here too. But there was also a lot of other interesting stuff I hadn’t seen before in my Google fog: a eulogy, a Trent Lott apologist, real estate tips, even a sermon.
Are there any other search engines you use frequently? What’a they got that Google ain’t got?
Teoma has been recommended to me.

I haven’t been too impressed personally.
It’s telling that it is the first result for “new search engine” on Google.
I like the flashing navigation links on the left on that sermon site (using Mozilla 1.2.1).
Recently I found a site that had a navigation frame on the left with links that didn’t work. There was a differently styled link at the bottom of the frame that said “click here.” That lead to a new page with a navigation frame on the left with links that did work. If by work you mean, “all of the links are plain grey ovals that animate to reveal words when you roll over them.”
I’ve also seen a site recently that has a small text area that cycles through different messages, which causes the main body text to the right of it to re-flow each time it changes.
