Back from the beyond

Post – April 10, 2003

Is it unseemly to talk about your web statistics, like revealing your salary to co-workers? I don’t know. But that doesn’t stop me from being curious about what other people’s traffic is like. Last week I hit an all-time high of just under 3,600 visits/sessions that week. Is that high or low for an average, non-A-list weblog? I know, I should just do this for my own sake blah blah blah. But who among us wouldn’t like more readers?

over 3,000 per week? Man, you ought to start selling something with all that traffic. I average about 70 hits per day with this current blog- with no search engine metatag. With the previous blog I was averaging a couple of hundred per day- which is pretty good for a goofy gal. 🙂 I think you are doing a wonderful job! Hey, I am one of those daily visitors!!!!

Way more than either of my blogs get. Lucky boy.

I had 140 last week. I’m surprised I get more than one twentieth of that amount.

Wow, dude. That’s a ton more than I get. I guess I’m one of those that toils in obscurity.

    I just confirmed a suspicion. I haven’t had 3,600 visitors this year.
But comparing your site to mine is like comparing apples to brown rotten little apples on the sidewalk that explode when you throw them against things.

How do you do it? I get but a trickle . . .

hey good for you! clearly conistantly good blogging has paid off – no tricks, no special inducements, just thoughtful posts and yes, a good crew of readers who share their views in a welcoming environment.

Looks like I’m currently averaging 3,017 unique visitors per week, 7,770 pages and 14,805 hits, but I’m not really sure what that means. I was going to be an ass and just post, “Hard or soft?”

The thing to remember is that as long as Wil Wheaton is alive, blog statistics approach (but never reach) zero significance. What’s most important is quality of content, the longevity of your commitment, and design that’s equally helpful to humans and search engines. I’d say you’ve aced all three categories.
