Blowing my own horn
When I get into periodic frenzies of commenting on other people’s weblogs, like now, I wish that more comment systems (like Movable Type’s) had a feature that John and I programmed into ours: a “notify me” checkbox that sends an email when someone else comments on a post you’ve commented on.
It’s great for the commenter, because it helps you keep track of where you’ve left comments and what else is being said. And I think it’s good for the weblog author too, because I bet it increases both traffic and comment participation.
I wish yours had a “stop notifying me” or “only notify me once until I return to the site” option :-/
Kicking you in the horn
I’d like it if everyone had comments links which appear different when visited, but only if no new comments have been made since last viewed.
You can blow your own horn? I wish I could do that.
Guess I walked into that one.
Okay, so:
1. “stop notifying me” option that basically undoes all prior “notify me” requests for a particular thread; and
2. “color me notify” option that highlights comment links that contain unread comments differently than those that the reader has already viewed.
Could be done . . . gimme a week or so — just started a new job and I’m still a bit tender.
And me still trying to work around Blogger…
Nice. I bet this would be useful if I had readers (not that I deserve any), but, dammit. All those ideas are good ones.
