Back from the beyond

Post – June 5, 2003

Saw Amy Sedaris on Letterman tonight – she’s so funny I can’t breathe. (I don’t normally watch Letterman, but my brain was vibrating seriously from playing Halo with Mike VS and Sparky for several hours.) This is going to sound strange, but I was struck by how pretty she was. My only other exposure to her was on the hilarious and greatly-missed “Strangers with Candy,” and she must have done an amazing job making herself look hideous.

Listening to her tale of communicating with her imaginary boyfriend Ricky through sign language after he lost his hearing on a movie set was perhaps the highlight of my week. (“We’ll go crabbing later,” she signed.) That, and killing Sparky with the Halo pistol.

Sounds like you un-made his demon form using some holy relic or something.

Still waiting for Halo to re-enter my heart,

Have you heard David’s story about when Amy went home to North Carolina wearing the bottom half of a fatsuit (she could only afford half), and their dad totally freaked out because he needs his daughters to be skinny? He blamed it on David for not looking out for her in the big city. I believe that story also includes the time when Amy was being photographed for some “Women to Watch” article in a magazine, and there was a make-up artist to beautify all the women. Their dad was all excited about how pretty she would look with professional lighting and make-up. Amy told the make-up guy to make her look like she just got the shit beat out of her, and she walked around the city for the rest of the day saying, “I’m in love!” and “I’ve never been happier!”
You can borrow the audiobooks when I get them back from whoever is borrowing them this time. Sooooo funny.

I love Amy Sedaris and, like you, was kind of happy to see that she doesn’t look anything like her character on Strangers with Candy. I wish someone would give her a talk show or some other kind of program. Heck, I’d watch a cooking show if she ran it.

I’ve never heard of Amy Sedaris. But I know of David, ever since the time about 10 years ago when I almost killed myself on the 405 freeway from laughing so hard at “Diary of an Elf,” the radio thing he did on NPR from The Santaland Diaries.

    God that was funny.

So, Amy is his little sister? And she’s (obviously) worthwhile? Must check her out.
