Did Monica Lewinsky hand this country over to George W. Bush?

My answer is, sadly, yes.

oh ferchrisakes! I sure hope you are kidding, man. You’ve got a young woman intern and the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD in a room. They have sex. This ignites a series of events that makes the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN THE WORLD much less powerful, and ineffective on many of the issues he was voted into office to act on. So, then, the party he represents doens’t retain power after his term of office is over. AND IT’S HER FAULT??????????? I want to reach thru this computer and slap some sense into you!!!!! Unless, of course, you were just kidding.

I wasn’t kidding. But it’s not that I blame her. I do think, though, that that scandal (which is Clinton’s fault, of course) caused enough damage to the administration to allow Al Gore to be seen as the legacy of a tainted presidency, by at least enough people so that a talentless smirking frat boy could become President.

In other words, I think that scandal was the defining moment not only in Clinton’s presidency, but also in Al Gore’s quest for the White House. I also think, weirdly, that if Gore had embraced Clinton more rather than running from him, it would have actually turned out better for Gore. So both Clinton and Gore had a hand in escalating the scandal.

In that sense I think Gore was the opposite of Bush I, who became President largely because people couldn’t vote for Reagan again.

Thinking about it now, this post is sort of a twin to my “Osama is lucky” post from 9/13/03 that got such a negative reaction.

Linda Tripp did the handing over. But, I agree with BJ. Clinton should have known better or not lied about it.

All I’m sayin’ is, there wouldn’t have been any DNA evidence left over, and I would have dry-cleaned the frickin’ dress. But that isn’t handing over a country — it’s just bad blowjob etiquette and it’s tacky office romance skills. Clinton isn’t any different from any powerful man who’s willing to use it to get sex, which is just about *any* powerful man.

I’d say that Katherine Harris handed him the election. Or the Supreme Court. It is amazing to think how a frigging blowjob tore down a political party.

Hmmm… does anyone else besides me suspect that Jeb was supposed to be the presidential candidate all along? And once we get AWOL-DUI-WMD-Cokefiend out of office I’m sure there’ll be a nice non-neo-con interlud and then they’ll drag the Usual Gang of Idiots back for another plummet with Jeb.
