A serious question

A serious question

Does anyone know any right-wing weblogs that aren’t the online equivalent of poison? My usual diet of Dean Esmay, Andrea Harris, and Kim and Connie du Toit has left me nauseated of late, especially swimming though the backwash of Kim’s latest rant. I need to take an indeterminate break from these people.

I’d actually like to read someone thoughtful on the other side of the spectrum who doesn’t make me want to urp. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Not long ago I would have recommended Donald Sensing’s One Hand Clapping. I can’t anymore. In fact, just yesterday I took him out of my blogroll, because I found that I really just didn’t want to spend any more of my time reading his opinions. My only question now is whether he was always the kind of person I’ve now grudgingly concluded him to be, or whether my new attitude is the result of some combination of his and my increasing polarization in light of the ongoing march of whatever it is that’s currently ongoing and marching.

When I need some ideological balance lately, I’ve found myself gravitating to academics. They have their own problems, but a lot of them are at least intellectually honest. Yay for tenure, I guess.

Daniel Drezner is pretty good. I was first attracted to him by his willingness to say that the Plame outing was a Very Bad Thing:

Some of the contributors to Crooked Timber, and some of the people in their blogroll (which I still haven’t fully explored) might qualify:

Good luck! And please pass on any that you find that you think are worth the time.

Adam, you might find these interesting:

John hit on something important, I think. I want to read a conservative who is occasionally willing to say that the current administration did something wrong. Because when they screechingly refuse to cede any ground, under any circumstances, I get turned off.

I was more than willing to say when Clinton, for example, did something stupid. I think that’s just intellectual honesty. But these days, any admission of anything is seen as weakness. “Deny, deny, deny” is not the attitude I want to see in anyone, whatever their political persuasion.

I’d agree with the above about Drezner and Harris. YMMV.

Though some folks on the left consider him anathema, Glenn Reynolds is more than willing to criticize the Bush Administration (particularly, but not exclusively, the DoJ and DHS).

I’m always struck by the amount of right-wing blogs which are faithfully updated and written with a passion (although a misguided and sometimes frightening one). My question is where are the left wing blogs? It seems a much smaller community, less fired up and often just as depressingly partisan. As irritating as many of the righties are, they also have humor (some) and a commitment that seems lacking on the left. And the ones that aren’t intentionally humorous are usually funny in their rabidness (?).
Anyhow, I’ve lost all my bookmarked sites due to an earlier crash today, but I remembered this site. Any worthwhile blogs on either side would be welcome.
