Back from the beyond

“Don?t get me started.” She continued, “I hate it. It’s ignorant, and it makes country music sound ignorant. It targets an entire culture -? and not just the bad people who did bad things.”

-The Dixie Chicks’ Natalie Maines, when asked about Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue”

Good for you, Natalie.

I can’t wait to see how many times Natalie gets called an Arab-lovin’ Commie Lezzie Jew for this! Lemme get on Google . . .

  2. Tom

AMEN. The song is dreck—speaking as a country DJ, there’s no defending such flaming pies of ultra-nationistic pablum.

Huh? What did Toby Keith say that’s so bad. Hate is an awful strong reaction to a song that glorifies American military personel and condemns the murder of more than 3000 people.

It’s a song. Toby sings it soldiers and patriotic civilians cheer and nobody is harmed in the process. What’s the big deal?

Well, I guess I won’t be buying any more Chicks albums! What a stupid bitch! Keep singing Toby!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like Earl had to die wasn’t ignorant as hell. Who does this bitch think she is?

I have really enjoyed the music of the Dixie Chicks and I have missed hearing new tunes from them. Maybe Natalie should try making some more great music and keep her “ignorant” opinions to herself. Toby Keith created this song as a tribute to his recently departed veteran father and all those who have died defending our country. It speaks to the hearts of a lot of Americans, in its own way, as much as the wonderful Allan Jackson song.

If Natalie chooses to continue trying to make negative comments about the work of other artists, she should make an effort to not imply their opinion by accident. “Angry American” wants revenge on the people who attacked America. The song does not “target an entire culture” unless Natalie thinks that there was an entire culture behind the September 11th attacks.

Natalie Maines is ridiculous-i love the Dixie Chicks, but really!!!-she just goes out of her way to be outspoken, and I think she needs to grow up. I happen to love Toby Keith’s song. . It’s ironic that she has recorded songs like ‘Goodbye Earl’ and ‘Sinwagon’ and has the gumption to say what she did.

Natalie Maines can think what she wants of Islamic culture but she has no clue what it’s really like for a woman in yer average Muslim country. I know I’ve been there.

A ?blondini? like her wouldn’t last long on the streets of Lebanon after dark. And the way I’ve seen Natalie dress – Iranians would have her beaten in a local government building if she presented herself in public there the way she does in the US. And in the Palestinian territories – You don’t even want to know how she’d be treated by the bubbas that run those streets at night. You see there is this belief among Middle Eastern Muslim men that 1. All American and European women are sluts and 2. That it?s okay to take advantage of non-muslim women because they don?t count against you in Allahh?s eyes (y?see because they aint Muslims so it?s ok to knock em? down and have yer way with em.) But hey, that’s their culture not ours and OK it’s bad for women in those countries but that’s their business.

Toby just wants the terrorists to know that they hurt the US in a deeply personal way and that they?re going to pay for it. I don’t think he has a big problem with the “entire culture”. Now, Natalie might, but I think Toby was just talking about the terrorists who attacked and killed thousands of people in New York. Muslim culture isn?t addressed in the T.K. song.

You go girlfriend! I have heard horror stories about the treatment of gays, lesbians and transgendered people in arabian countries. They got serious problems over there. I love the Dixie Girls and all that but you gotta draw the line somewhere. I didn?t like that Tony guys song when I heard about it too but he didn?t say nothin bad about my people gays, lesbians and transgendered. He just says somethin about stickin a boot in somebodies ass and what is so bad about that?

Natalie is a spoiled Nashville brat who would rather listen to a Bruce Springsteen cd than a Nickle Creek cd (GO NICKLE CREEK! ;)). She will share the stage with Cheryl Crow before she was caught dead doing a duet with somebody like the great Ricky Skaggs, not that he would want to do a duet with her because I think he is real conservative and she is not (ecspecially in the way she dresses ;(). Natalie is the type of “country” artist that likes California more than Tennessee and L.A. More than Nashville. Natalie is just a singer. She’s a really, really great singer but she is not real country and I?m not allowed to listen to her music. Toby Keith is not always real country either 🙁 Which is too bad too because his song about the red white and blue is such a good one except it has a bad word and I am not allowed to make those listening choices till I?m 18 and moved out of the house.

    Go Nickle Creek! 🙂

Anyone who would call a woman who speaks her mind a bitch *would* like the Toby Keith song. It’s an awful song, and Toby Keith is one of my least favorite people ever.

Rose said “Anyone who would call a woman who speaks her mind a bitch *would* like the Toby Keith song.”

I must disagree. Many friends of mine would call a woman who speaks her mind (in an unconstructive manner that detracts from something done by a man) a “bitch.” Those same people hate all country music and would not be caught dead listening to Toby Keith or any other country musician.

Just goes to show you that generalized insults get you nowhere 🙂

  14. Bill

    Ooops! Forgot one!

Rose also said “Toby Keith is one of my least favorite people ever.”

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you should reserve statements like that one for truly evil people. He’s a musician, not Hitler, Stalin, Baby Doc, Jeff Dahmer, or the highjackers of the September 11th flights to name a few. I disagree with you, but you are going to have to kill and torture a few people or animals or at least ruin some lives before you will be one of my least favorite people. Prozac is a good thing.

As the son of a veteran who almost lost a foot while serving in Germany,I can relate to Toby’s anger, someone attacked our home and the SOBs are going to pay.I feel proud to be an American every time I hear the song.Hey Natalie,if you don’t appreciate the freedom our veterans fought and died for,America doesn’t need you,GET THE HELL OUT!!!!!!
