I hate doing laundry, but I enjoy doing the dishes. Go figure.

Clearly you’re a freak. Both the laundry and the dishes are best left for the maid to do overnight…
If there was no waiting involved in laundry, then I would love it. I always end up forgetting about it, and then I ends up being a burden. I’m seriously considering a laundry service. I used one once when my building’s machines were broken (out of undies), and it was amazing. Everything was so clean and crisp and no wrinkling. The folding was sheer perfection. I have dreams about it sometimes. Usually when I’ve left a load in the washer over night.
I think nik has it right. With dishes in the sink, you clean them, you’re done, all’s right with the world. Even with a dishwasher, they can sit there, indefinitely, once finished. Whereas the dryer keeps buzzing at you, demanding you empty and hang up and fold, lest wrinkles the size of the Grand Canyon appear in all your clothing. Feh.
Maybe it would be more enjoyable if you washed your clothes while you are still wearing them? I’ve found it to be exhilarating.
i don’t mind doing either – in fact, i prefer it to others doing mine for me – EXCEPT i have this mental block about putting the clean clothing away! I can move a pile of clean clothes around my small room for 5-6 days before I will actually put the stuff away.
Wow — we’d make great roomates, as I love to coook and iron!
The problem with dishes is that they need to be done every day, but laundry can be accomplished in one fell swoop for the week. Doing it for other people makes a difference as well. Doing dishes for three people is, for me, a lot more work than doing laundry for three.
Actually, I used to love ironing. I ironed my sheets. My t-shirts. My husbands undershirts. Now, given time constraints, he’s lucky if they’re not huddled in a fetid heap on the floor.
I like doing the dishes, too. There’s a sort of rhythm to it, and it can be a very “Zen” experience. Not laundry, though–there is too much starting and stopping and waiting for things to happen.
