I heard on the radio that GWB is headed to his ranch for a month’s vacation. When I heard this, I thought, “Did they say a month? They must have said a week. I misheard. That’s it – it was a week. That’s sort of long, but OK.”
No. It’s a month.
This from a man who’s already spend a total of 60 days (!) at his ranch, in Kennebunkport, etc. Two months out of six. So not only is he not running the country, but they feel secure enough about it to rub it in our faces. My jaw is on the floor, and that’s increasingly hard to do.
He must be allowed to do this because he’s so damn productive during the days he does work.
wouldn’t it be nice if he were setting an example for all americans, and everyone would start taking that much vacation. productivity has grown immensely in the past 40 years in the US (and everywhere else except maybe North Korea and Iraq) and yet leisure time has not. unless you count the leisure time consumed in the form of unemployment.
All dubya’s defenders keep saying “but it’s a working vacation” as though dubya’s the only one who works during his days off. Not that I’m saying he does any work – that’s just his apologists’ story. Working vacations are the norm for American’s nowadays. Just try to take a vacation without your employer having a contact number. It’s impossible. So, dubya, you haven’t accrued any vacation days yet. We’re going to have to dock some money off your $400,000/year salary. Let’s see. You’ve been in office six months. You’ve taken two months off. Gee, that’s not just vacation time, that’s absenteeism. We’re going to have to let you go.
well, maybe we can all hope he does less damage when he’s on vacation?
