What I love is Barney’s total diregard for any of the people who cross his path. Must be contagious. I was watching The View today (shut up), and I saw part of the Barbara Walters interview that’s airing tomorrow night with the ‘first couple’, and Barney doesn’t even aknowledge the prez when he’s called. It’s hilarious. That dog hates him.
I have to say that I love animal POV, though. Love it. Can’t get enough.
Your tax dollars at work.
I can’t wait until he starts sniffing crotches and humping legs.
Well, I understand how anyone would look at this in the “there go our tax dollars” and “don’t they have anything more important to do” perspective. But I don’t quite see anything resembling horror in this! I agree w/Nik, I love the POV. Dogs have such a zest for life, anything that helps us see the world from their perspective is positive IMHO. The world would be a much better place if we took on the same perspective on life as they do. If this is horror, there’s certainly not much to be afraid of in this world!
This is certainly not the first time the white house took the opportunity to have a little fun. I remember Clinton doing a really funny piece in his freetime, a little movie/video about being home alone in the white house while Hillary was campaigning. I think it’s cool when the white house, no matter who’s the current occupant, does fun stuff like this. Shows a human side of itself, no matter who’s the current occupant. I know some will disagree, but they ARE humans too, even if they are republicans!!
I appreciate seeing a dog(whether it be the late Buddy(dem), or Barney(rep)!) that goes about life, not caring about living in the white house, but excited to run around, explore the curious nature of a christmas ornament…etc. Seeing animals, and dogs in particular exploring a wonderous new day always reminds me that sometimes we take life to seriously.
Beyond all that, I guess I’m just biased as a dog lover. There’s really nothing wrong with a little pet obsession crawling onto the web is there?

Socks had a book. The dog is just going multimedia.
I can’t decide if I hate the government or pet obsession more.
I saw that Clinton video, Wayne, and it really *was* funny, surprisingly so. I have a friend who has a copy — I should really try to digitize it and “share” the thing.
But I can’t watch Barney, because it’s RealMedia, and I won’t install that thing on my computer.
Close-up, Barney looks like a rampaging wild boar with bloody tusks and murder in his eyes. There’s a good parallel there: cute, harmless-looking, vaguely bumbling, but with a murderous heart.
I’m a reptile-lover, so things with fur are generally considered food.
I think the Dog POV was faked with the camera held at ankle level. At first I thought they put a camera on him, but I don’t think that’s the case. As for tax dollars, I’d rather my taxes pay for an intern to waste an afternoon having fun with a dog (plus the web nerds to edited and posted the video) than some fucking bomb ruining someone’s day. I also liked how he totally blew off everyone trying to pet him. Him fighting with the other dog was cool too. This is the most pleasant thing to come from politics in a while.
Boy that little Barney is a feisty one isn’t he…
