Really enjoyed last night’s “Alias.” I’ve always liked Marshall, the geeky Q to Sydney’s Bond. And tonight he even got to go on a mission! His chemistry with Syd is great, which led me to think, why can’t the geeky, funny, smart guy ever get the girl? Marshall has more personality in his mouse-button-pushing finger than Vaughn has in his whole body. If you ask me.

begging the observation: if the geeky, funny, smart guy could take his smitten-glazed eyes off the dewey spy waif he might, MIGHT, see the funny, smart gal. geekiness has its own charms, Marshall. If you ask me…
K: Good point. I agree. In fact, it reminds me of a skit the women of SNL did recently, where they told the men in their lives, “If you’re holding out for the chick from ‘Alias,’ face it – it’s not gonna happen.”
K is right. that works both ways. geeky, smart girls never get the guy either.
i’ve never watched Alias, but the geeky, funny, smart guy wins in my book every time. that probably doesn’t count though as dewey waif i am not.
So true, deb. I hate that ‘Greek Wedding’ is the new gold standard for smart girls getting the guy. (Like happily ever after means shacking up next to your control-freak parents who named you Toula, for god’s sake.)
I actually love ‘Alias.’ Conspiracy theorist, I’m not. It’s the characters and the intrigue and, yeah ok, the cool clothes. And Victor Garber who can basically do no wrong.
I think the distinction is that Marshall is unintentionally funny. While Sydney is designed to make all guys love her.. which I have followed suit with quite predictibly.
I love how those women on SNL were saying, “Stop playin’ Grand Theft Auto!”
