Went to see “Solaris” again with Dave and Susan last night – the final showing of the movie in Madison, with all the new stuff opening today. I’m sure Sparky will be disappointed to learn that I liked it even more this time. It takes enormous liberties with the book, but on its own it’s a fascinating brain-expander on questions like: What if you could have someone back you’ve lost? What would you give up to make that happen? Would having them back be a blessing or a curse? What if how you remembered them wasn’t the way they truly were?
I guess I’m feeling philosophical today.
I think your list of questions is ten times better than the experience of the movie. Here’s a question: What if you had to make a shitty movie in order to ask your audience half a dozen thought-provoking questions?
