Back from the beyond

CRAWFORD, Texas (AP) – President Bush said Tuesday that an attack by Saddam Hussein or a terrorist ally “would cripple our economy,” offering new justification for potential war against Iraq even as he said North Korea’s nuclear ambitions can be curbed without military conflict.

Is it possible that people are beginning to catch on to how crazy and irrational this Iraq vendetta is? Probably not. But in a new year, we can hope.

I’m sticking to my original assessment — Shrub is looking for approval from the old Bush. There is a side of this that isn’t reported in the papers, and I think it’s the real reason for all of this. Saddam is more than just an Arab dictator, and Iraq is more than a Middle Eastern nation. What they really are in the mind of our president won’t be known for years.

I don’t find the “could bes” and “might bes” sufficient arguement for war. Sounds too much like 19th century Europe.

The reason we’re not taking the same approach with North Korea is it would further their agenda. Pyongyang is trying to use fear of a US invasion in the area to bring others in the region under his influence. Their recent actions have likely been intended purely to provoke us for that purpose. Careful strategy in one situation doesn’t necessarily equal a vendetta (though of course there may be one) in another.

There are only so many times you can try to convince the public that your brown shoes are actually red before they catch on, become bored, and move on. (Strange analogy I know, but you get the point)
I have noticed recently that even the 24/7 news joints like CNN are starting to recognize desent and even give air time to those questioning the war rhetoric.
Bush is getting played by world leaders that are smarter than he and he’s really looking the fool. No matter how many times those insepectors go in, they come back with nothing. People are starting to admit that perhaps nothing is there. As well, how can you justify all out war with a nation that may/may not have weapons (even if those weapons can not possibly reach the U.S. and therefore are not a threat) yet ignore a nation that is waving their weapons in our face. It just reeks of hypocrisy and shiftiness all around.
People are finally starting to publicly admit this is an elitist war for oil and in no way will benefit the general public and want nothing to do with it.

Wasn’t it nice of dubya to make war more attractive to Saddam by admitting that it would cripple the economy? Serious security breach, dubya. Someone call TIPS.
