Trillian keeps getting blocked out by AOL, over and over, to the point where they are releasing a new patch about once a day. I guess for me, AOL’s tactics have worked – the cool interface isn’t worth installing a new patch almost daily. Plus, when I try to sign on using Trillian and it doesn’t work (again), AOL then blocks me from signing on to the “real” AIM for about a half hour.
AOL, you evil empire – you broke my spirit.
There’s a trick you can use to reconnect.
1) Turn off Auto-reconnect in Preferences->AIM.
2) Toggle the Status Window on.
3) Click “Join Chat Room” and type in something nonsensical like “ffasdfs”.
4) Leave this window open, then click “Reconnect”.
5) IMMEDIATELY click “Join” on your Join Chat Window.
6) If your buddies sign on, you’re on!
Give it time. AOL and MS are close to settling on a standard. When the two biggies manage to agree, hopefully the standard will be widely adopted and more clients will be able to interconnect.
the new patch works! I’m using it. Get it and come and chat to me 🙂
