The other night, I fired up “SimCity 4” for the first time. More than two hours later, I began to notice my surroundings again.
I’ve always been a fan of the Sim games, and especially SimCity. This latest version gives you even more of a godlike feeling than previous outings – the mode where you alter the terrain is almost visceral, pushing and pulling the land, making water appear, even seeding the landscape with wild animals, which emerge in a puff of smoke. There’s a night mode now, where you see your city illuminated by streetlights and lighted offices. And you can zoom in much further than before – the level of detail is fantastic.

It’s definitely on my “To buy when you’ve saved up money after upgrading your computer.” My most recent favorite of Will Wright’s crop was the insanely popular “The Sims”. I have three of the expansion packs, well actually four, but I ran out of hard drive space and RAM and have to upgrade before installing that one. It takes up about 1/5th of my hard drive by itself….
But are there grenades?

There are no grenades, but you can rain tornadoes, meteors and other natural disasters down on the unsuspecting citizenry. Oh, and giant robots.
But no rocket launchers.
Giant Robots?? Well, the newest “Sims” upgrade is rumored to have monkey butlers, so why not?
will you join sims online? it looks fabulous. I am considering it… but I just don’t know. I paid for the pioneer acct. at GNE and I’ll wait to see if that pans out. Look for me there- we only have a few more days. 🙂
