Watched one of my favorite movies tonight, “Once Around” with Holly Hunter, Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Aiello and Gena Rowlands.
There’s a lot to say about this movie, not the least of which is if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. So much better than Lasse Hallstrom’s current “The Shipping News.” But what struck me this time was the fierce love of Dreyfuss’ Sam for Hunter’s Renata. It’s the kind of love that we all deserve to have in our lives. It’s messy and difficult and passionate and intense and worth every minute. When’s the last time you saw a movie that conveyed something like that?
We do?
Hey. I saw that movie years ago and never found out the title of it. Thanks for that. Oh, and I agree about the type of love he had for Renata, given that she wasn’t that easy to love from what I remember. Also, who is the other pilot played by? It was some famous actor, but for some reason, John Goodman jumps to mind. I think it was one that actor’s early film roles – before they were discovered. or shortly after they started working on tv regularly. Crap! Now it’s going to bug me till I find out. Ok, I’m off to imdb.com. You turn 33 and your brain goes to shit in one night! 😉
Lilly, you’re actually thinking of “Always,” another romantic comedy from two years previous, also starring Hunter and Dreyfuss. It’s a common mistake. In fact, a friend of mine was wanting to watch “Once Around,” described it to another friend who went to the video store and came back with “Always.”
