Back from the beyond

Post – June 25, 2001

Wouldn’t you love to meet some of the people whose blogs you read on a daily basis? I know I would. It would be so great to have Mike, Melissa, Moira, Arthur, Miguel, Kevin, Mike C., and Tuesday all sitting out on the patio overlooking Lake Monona. All of the aforementioned have an open invitation to come by any time. I’d even spring for some pizza and beer.

That sounds absolutely lovely. But I think I need to tend to my bank account first. Keep the beer cold.

What a lovely thought. Maybe we could have some kind of virtual chat session where you bring your laptop out on the pier with a digital camera and take pictures of the water and yourself drinking the beer….naaah, like “The Matrix” says, reality is better.

Lovely indeed. I’ll supply the woodchuck. 🙂

Yes! The thing I think would be the most interesting is that you would be able to hear everybody’s voices. I think it’s funny that we spend all this time reading other people’s words, but we have no idea what they actually sound like.

There was a meme going around on some weblogs a while back where people made voice recordings and posted them. I don’t have a microphone, and my voice has been known to scare small children and woodland animals, so I don’t know if it’s such a good idea in my case. But I would like to hear other people’s…

if i had a job and a couple vacation days, i would actually be in wisconsin this coming weekend for an event at summerfest. a short side trip and i could have been right there at the lake’s shore.

Touching idea Adam, but for some reason I find it a little creepy. I mean, the only thing that any of us would have in common is the fact that you liked our writing, or had some weird fascination with our lives. That would make you the social lynch pin.

That’s great for you, a kind of weird ‘my-blog-friends-are-real’ fantasy, but how would the rest of us relate.

I guess I’d show up out of curiousity to see if we all would get along, just because there must be some common element in our work that attracts you. Let’s hope it’s not some deep seeded need for contact or anything like that — If you break out a game of twister I’m outta there.

It’s me again, Mike C from the previous comment. Since posting that comment yesterday I have come to understand that my intended meaning has been misconstrued, and actually, upon rereading that comment today, I totally understand how I could come across as having a hard tone.

Actually, I was only teasing, rattling Adam’s cage, as they say. I think that his idea was thoughtful, and I’d totally be up to accepting his invitation. I guess I forgot that nobody can see my ‘tongue in cheek’ online.

I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings, or if I came across as callous. I think Adam and his blog are great, and hopefully we will get a chance to meet — but now I think that I should be the one to bring the beer.

    I feel bad…sorry

Hi Adam. If you’re ever in the Vienna area, let me know, we can go have coffee. They’re even opening a Starbuck’s here soon.

How about starting one of these “projects” that are popping up all over, like the “Mirror Project” where people send in pictures of their reflections, or that one mentioned on the blogger.com homepage where bloggers send in baby pictures? We could all send in pictures of our shoes or something, and you could post them.
