Extremely good rundown on many aspects of Smart Tags in A List Apart. I know I’ve been on the ‘Smart Tags are evil’ bandwagon somewhat heavily of late, but I honestly believe that they, or some later implementation of the same ideas, could be a major infringement on our freedom to publish on the web. Check it out and decide for yourself.

This is so evil I can’t even think up some snotty comment about it. How dare Microsoft change what people put on their blogs to advertise whatever Microsoft wants to advertise? I mean, just — how — DARE — they? That’s really all I can sputter. I didn’t find out what Smart Tags were till yesterday (I was afraid to look, frankly), but….uccckk. At least Ultimate Evil in “Time Bandits” was stylishly funny. Microsoft is just disgusting.
