Tonight “The West Wing” hit it out of the park again with another fantastic episode. It’s the best show on TV right now, and I challenge anyone to come up with a better one. They manage a delicate balance between character, comedy, tragedy and policy that’s amazing to watch. I also enjoyed watching the fictional brainiac president Bartlet deride his potential Republican opponent (a conservative governor from a southern state, no less) for being an intellectual lightweight.
“If he’s going to be in charge of making policy, we think he should at least understand it,” says Josh Lyman.
On top of everything else, they get top-flight guest stars like Laura Dern tonight, who gave an Emmy-worthy performance as the U.S. Poet Laureate.
This show is why we shouldn’t all chuck our TVs out the window.
But I have to keep turning the show off every time that annoying guy with the raspy voice who used to be on L.A. Law comes on. I can’t stand that guy. Ruins the whole show for me.
John Spencer? I think he’s cool.
I haven’t seen too much of The West Wing, but right now, my favorite show has to be Six Feet Under. (Even though this weeks show was a bit slow.) They have raised some interesting points about the neverending question, and even thought of some answers to it. Good stuff.
Buffy. The. Vampire. Slayer.
This season’s about Bartlet’s re-election campaign, but my question is when Josh and Donna are going to get together.
P.S. – Everything CJ Craig says and does is divine.
The show’s fine if you like having liberal propaganda crammed down your throat. I’d like to watch it for the writing and acting, but it’s too didactic for me to enjoy.
Well, they make no apologies for the politics of the show. It’s a Democractic president in office on the show, after all.
I think they do a good job of bringing up the other sides of issues. Many times they ask very tough questions that break through the assumptions of liberal public policy. The show allows the issues to actually be debated, something we don’t get in real life.
I agree with Arthur. And I say, give us more of Ainsley Hayes – she has sharp, articulate, well-considered conservative opinions. Good stuff.
I became a fan of WestWing when they stopped music in such a heavy handed manner. But I do think the liberal crap can be kinda hard to take (and I am one) not because of the point of view, but the characters rarely do questionable things to pursue their agendas, which is just not HUMAN – which is why my fave is LAW AND ORDER – that Jack McCoy is more or an actual person who does some questionable things, unlike the WEST WING folks, which is just too unrealistic! (but yes, the dialogue is much more clever and snappier)
