Back from the beyond

Some quite interesting talk on MetaFilter recently about the terms “black” and “African-American.”

Reminds me of the old Star Trek episode where Uhura meets Abe Lincoln and he refers to her as a “negress,” then apologizes realizing that the term was archaic.

Uhura sort of chuckled, shrugged it off, and said “Mr. President, this is the 23rd century. We’re not afraid of words any more.”

I guess we only have 200 years to go.

    Great quote, Xkot.
