Is it wrong to complain about a free service? How about if you would gladly pay for said service, and then have a justification for expecting a certain level of performance, but no such pay service was available? “You’re welcome to this free Yugo. It breaks down a lot, and once in a while it dumps you beside the road. You can always come back and get another free one, when this one explodes.” Grrr.

Did you give Blogger a few dollars when they asked for donations? They can only pay for upgrades through that fund.
actually, i made a donation to the fund, and i proudly display my blogger sticker on my ratty old car. today, when there was a pretty serious glitch going on, i feel like I was patient, knowing that there’s basically no staff and it’s a free service. my blog addiction didn’t care, though. as i carefully archived all the blog entries i wished i could make, and as i logged all the typos and editorial changes that needed to be made, i swear i was twitching and had to wipe some froth from the side of my mouth.
on the other hand, i share adam’s frustration. i would pay for blogger (a small amount for now since i’m not gainfully employed). i would like my blogging not to be interrupted. when it is, i’d like to know why and when it’s going to be fixed. currently i can’t expect that with a free service, but i guess i yearn for more stability at blogger headquarters so they can deal with trivial stuff like today’s outage.
I also contributed to the server fund, and happily. I want to see Blogger succeed. It’s just frustrating when their lack of a business plan has got thousands of people out there dangling by a thread.
I didn’t know about the server fund, but I emailed Ev today (although I hate doing that, because the poor sucker usually has 2500 emails in his Inbox) and said I would be happy to pay something like $20/month if it would help prevent technical glitches like this. Not that I expect them to have a pay-service up and running anytime soon, but I thought he might appreciate the comment.
I didn’t contribute, but I did email EV and offer to pay for premium service. Put all the free users on 1 box and then restrict the number of paid users (optimized for performance) per server.
