One of my favorite Simpsons episodes was on in syndication last night: the one where the town is going to pass an anti-immigrant law, and Apu tries to get out of it by buying fake papers from Fat Tony:
“You are from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Your parents are Herb and Judy Nahasapeemapetalon.”
The current climate adds a strange new dimension to this, of course. How long will it be before our every experience isn’t filtered through this new lens?
That wasn’t a syndicated episode in the regular rotation, it was a requested episode by some guy in a band i never heard of from MAdison. The local station took requests from “famous” people this week.
“My favorite baseball squadron is the Nie Mets.”
Everyone wears glasses now.
Crappy glasses.
Maybe never. You’ll note we follow the Kennedy’s still, the Americans’ idea of royalty. 9/11 was a lot like that: everyone will remember where they were when those planes hit the WTC. Some things don’t die out; they get transformed into part of cultural baggage we can’t help but carry around.
