Things that annoy me
1. Movie theaters where the automated projection systems mean the movies are just slightly out of focus most of the time. And when you ask them to check the focus, they rarely do.
2. Bookstores with “free” gift wrapping staffed by high school students using “tips” gathered by guilty patrons of the wrapping table to finance their school activities.
3. Salvation Army bell ringers. I have no problem with charities raising money. But if “Need Has No Season,” why are you cynically using holiday shopping guilt to fill your coffers?
4. The fact that “fresh turkey” actually apparently means “already defrosted turkey.” No one explained this to me beforehand.
Movie Theaters – agree 100%. Another peeve of mine is when they don’t set it to full brightness in order to make the projector bulb last longer. This leads to dark, muddy movies.
Gift wrapping – as long as there’s a sign or something, I have no problem with it. Now if it’s a bait and switch, that’s truly nasty.
Salvation army? I don’t mind.
As for the fresh turkey thing… that is whacked out.
Dare I ask how you found out? About the turkey, that is.
Bell wringers? Freudian slip?
also movie theaters where they “forget” to turn the air on & it’s so stuffy & hot you can smell the melted twizzlers on the floor de-composing.
I believe it *was* a Freudian slip, JD. I’ve corrected it, just to save myself further well-deserved ribbing.
My mother recently unearthed a sign I had placed on my bedroom door as a kid. It read, “Do not enter or you will be BEAT TO DEATH!” I was struck most that I had used bad grammar. 🙂
Linda, I found out about the turkey when I picked up my “fresh” one at the store and found the neck and giblets were still frozen. Asking around, people broke it to me that “fresh” does not mean “fresh.”
Aw, come on. We movie theatre folk try as hard as we can! Really! Well, mostly…
But seriously, there’s a good reason to get the projector bulbs to last longer. Have you ever had to deal with a theatre full of angry people after their projector bulb has blown out? Not a pretty sight.
I feel like kicking all Salvation Army bell ringers in the shins after reading this article: http://uspolitics.about.com/library/weekly/aa071001a.htm
Kick them in the shins…or take this action (http://pflag.org/advocacy/action.html) to let them know why you’re not donating to them this year.
You are SO good! Consider it done! Thanks.
