Back from the beyond

Pop culture confession: I watched both the “80s TV” Weakest Link and the “Star Trek” Weakest Link shows. I was struck by how generally smart the Star Trek crew seemed, even though the questions were incredibly easy. And I was shocked at how dumb most of the 80s TV people were, with the exception of “The Love Boat”‘s Jill Whelan (who knew?). Fred “Rerun” Berry (who is 50!) and Erin Moran were especially dumb. If you had asked Erin Moran her name, I think she would have gotten it wrong. And Wil Wheaton, Mr. A-List Weblogger, was trying to be hip and interesting but just came off as pathetic. I bet any of those other Star Trek people would be interesting to sit around a dinner table with, though. Not that they’re making plans to come over any time soon.

Oh my God, that was my reaction exactly. I am your Weakest Link pop culture blog twin!

    Now there’s a scary concept.

I had money on LeVar Burton winning from the start, although my husband was pulling for Robert Picardo. But he was so programmed by TV he was expecting “Q” to win and seemed genuinely shocked when I told him that was the first person voted off. Wil, Wil…..the poor guy seemed like he was trying to come off as a young William Shatner. Seeing as there was an ancient William Shatner on the other end, at least there was symmetry. And I didn’t think Shatner’s pawing of the host was really funny; the scripting on that show is really starting to seem stilted.

It was sort of sweet how all the former classic TV star gals kept saying “I love you!” desperately as they voted all their friends off, though.

Oh my God. I need to read more Iris Murdoch. A comic book. Anything with print.

I’m glad I’m not the only one generally annoyed by Will Wheaton.

Whch do you think is more pathetic, watching those “Celeberity” Weakest Link episodes, or wanting to have watched them, but completly forgot about them until just now, reading this post and getting all depressed because you missed them?

Aw, I don’t think Wil’s all that annoying. He’s a good writer. He was just apparently doing a persona for all the people who read his website and see his comedy act at tiny LA clubs, and forgot that Number of People Who View Weakest Link >>>>> Number of People Who Know Wil Wheaton’s Persona.

I think it is more pathetic to’ve actually watched the shows….all those brain cells….
