What’s wrong with this picture? “Vice President Cheney has been moved to an undisclosed secure location. Meanwhile, tonight the President will be attending Game 3 of the World Series.” -actual news report on NPR this afternoon
I was going to write a long comment, but instead see here.

They’re actually sending a Bush decoy… that guy from the Comedy Central show.
Adam
Dave’s basic point is, the two men should be separated in times of crisis, and the President should be carrying on with an air of “normalcy” for morale purposes.
But come on – can you even imagine in your wildest dreams that NPR report replaced with the names of any other president and vice president?
“Vice President Quayle has been moved to an undisclosed secure location. Meanwhile, tonight President Bush will be attending Game 3 of the World Series.”
*** Dave
Yeah, but everyone would be wildly cheering if Quayle were moved to an “undisclosed, secure location” …
I could imagine it with Bush/Reagan … but with the same sort of wry humor as Cheney/Bush conjures up.
I also suspect, as I noted, a bit of bias in NPR so reporting.
Margie thinks Cheney has anthrax. She’s good at this kind of stuff.
Mosey
You people are missing the point. What is wrong with that picture is it implies GWB is a Yankees fan.
We all know better.
Moira
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! (bwahahahaha)
Adam
Let me put it another way: the President is being sent into one of the biggest terrorist targets possible, while the vice president is in a secret safehouse.

I think in the big picture, any president is just a figurehead. It’s the job, not the person, that matters. By making public appearances Bush is trying to show that we’re not afraid, but steps have to be taken to ensure that there’s someone around to fill the job if something happens.
Kevin
He’s bait, I tell you! Bait! We all know who’s in charge.
*** Dave
Hell, as long as the Pres is in the White House, he’s got a big target sign on his back (roof). If he starts hunkering down where he’s well-hid, what’s *that* going to do to consumer confidence and general national morale, not to mention confidence in the Pres himself.
I am quite certain that every security action that can be taken for his trip is being taken (where’s Bruce Willis when you need him?). Is there a risk? Certainly. Is it appreciable? Who knows? Is there a risk to behaving differently, absolutely.

You all are too serious, when your ticket is up, it’s up, no matter who you are.
Moira
Does anyone want to hear my “If-we-had-known-Cheney-had-serious-heart-problems,-Bush-would-never-have-gotten-elected” rant? no, I didn’t think so.
