Back from the beyond

Post – October 6, 2002

For the last few years I’ve been on quite a anti-consumerist kick. My friend Mike Van Sistine would beg to differ, constantly ribbing me about my lakefront condo and “German touring sedan” (VW Passat). But in general, the idea of “shopping” for “stuff” leaves me vaguely unsettled, and I would much rather give something away than acquire something new.

But today I was in Best Buy, and I found myself wandering over to the high-definition, 16:9 plasma TVs. *Homer Simpson drool* I may have blacked out for a minute.

I’ll buy your Sony TV if you get one of them there plasma tubes, Homer. My 19″ Quasar sans-remote is just not cutting it these days.

well, that makes TOTAL sense- you LOVE movies, and who wouldnt want to watch them at home, without movie theatre cellphones, an dpopcorn spillers, and people with big heads sitting in front of you?

BJ: Well I can’t fault those with big heads, since I’m the president of that club. (And stadium seating has eliminated a lot of those problems.) But there’s still all the talking, candy-wrapper-crinkling and out-of-focus screens left to make me insane.
