As if we needed any further proof that ‘The Simpsons’ has jumped the shark

“The guest-star-apalooza begins in the 14th-season premiere, when Homer goes to rock & roll fantasy camp and jams with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Brian Setzer and Lenny Kravitz.”

-Entertainment Weekly fall TV preview

Someone pull the plug, please. Or pretty soon all this crap will blot out the memories of the best show ever.

I disagree. The Simpsons has been using celebrities behind the scenes as voices (Penny Marshall, Kelsey Grammer) or overtly (Aerosmith, Leonard Nimoy) throughout their entire run.

Please do not blame the Simpsons if you have lost your sense of humor. It is still the funniest show on teevee.

    Laugh.

Don’t get me wrong. I love The Simpsons with a passion. That’s why I hate to see what the show has become the last few seasons – just a random jumble of non-connected events, with tons of guest stars thrown in to pump up what interest factor is left. Every show, no matter how fantastic, has a lifespan. I think this one has run its course, and I hate to see them pumping out several more years of shows just because of the colossal amount of money they can make.

    Just one man’s opinion.

And a very good opinion, at that. Although some shows still make me shoot milk out my nose laughing (the one showing Homer crossing the river Styx, while skeletons played “Lady” and Homer wailed “Oh, this truly is Hell!” springs to mind), the quality is all over the board.

As Troy McClure said, “Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off old gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they’ll have between now and when the show becomes unpopular?”
