Rhetorical or not.
It’s only possible to see the view from far away.
It’s so hard to see that the thing that needs improvement, change, fixing is ourselves. Especially, if you don’t have good mirrors or accurate feedback or good role models. Take Madonna for example, surrounded by yes men. Who’s gonna tell her that she fucked up?
