Words mean things

At lunch today with my mom, I heard an early 20s woman at the next table using the term “freaking,” as in “We went to every freaking store in the whole mall, and didn’t find anything good.” It got me wondering, does anyone (other than this woman) use the term “freaking” in normal conversation? I mean, outside of cable-edited movies with bad dubbing?

    Yes.

Somewhere along the line, apparently people have forgotten that ‘freaking’ and its sibling ‘frikkin’ is the euphemism for ‘fucking’ (like ‘gosh darn’ for ‘god damn’) thanks, perhaps, to Austin Powers…as if that makes it OK to slip into otherwise polite conversation. (Sorry for rambling. It’s the curse of having been an English major in college.)

My high school students use it all the time. 😉

Utah is big on the made-up swear word, so yes, “freaking” or “frickin'” is very common around here. It’s basically just a stand-in for the versitile “fucking” Other acceptable substitutions are “frelling,” “frell,” “fudge,” or “fetch.”

One does tend to use words like this in the presence of small children – you wouldn’t believe the kind of idiotic crap that comes out of my frickafrackin gahblessit mouth after I’ve clonked myself on the head running into the cabinet door.

oh my god yes i use freakin all the time. Now i feel like an idiot i never looked at it as a substitute for fucking i used it as freakin as in “freeking out” Because i get very nervious and anxious and i literally FREAK so i say freakin when i’m upset oh forget i don’t know i use it frequently. Is this uncommon? There was quite a bit replies.

Bytheway i also say jeepers and for cryanoutloud. Sometimes people laugh at me but rarely. Yet i never hear anyone else say them. Does anyone use those two sayings at all? My grandma and mom say it where i got it from.
